VEX Delrin Bearing

Delrin is a brand name of DuPont for Polyoxymethylene. A plastic that is used as a metal substitute with low-friction and light weight.

This bearing is designed to fit the Vex Robotic Design System metal parts. It allows the Vex square shaft (3mmx3mm equivalent to a 4mm shaft) to be able to rotate freely when in the assembly.

Two things to consider when mounting the bearing. Make sure that the hole in which the shaft will go through is centered and the shaft does not bounce or bind on the metal frame square holes. Also, consider using a light lubricant on the inner hole of the bearing to give more protection from friction and a smoother shaft motion.

The thickness of the bearing in positioning needs to be considered along with friction of the parts (gears, wheels, or any other attachment) against the frame or bearing needs to be considered. Lubricants and Delrin Washers can be used between parts that move and frame that is stationary to prevent heat, wear and tear, and binding from occurring.

Periodic maintenance and inspection of these areas should be done when used in a harsh or long period of use. Each location should be listed on your Maintenance Check List to make sure you remember to inspect and lubricate as needed.
