Mathematics, physics, mechanical and electrical engineering, computer technologies, and system integration are aspects of robotics that can be taught, studied and learned.   The Old Fashion Robotic Store, located in Providence RI, is devoted to computer controlled robotics for education and hobbyists. The store focuses on entry level kits to help demonstrate the different skills involved in computer controlled robotics and to providing components for small projects. Kits and systems have been selected to fit most age groups (Grade 1 to Adults).

Thames and Kosmos offers high-quality science and technology related educational products for children of all ages. The kits we carry are plastic based kits that makes learning physics and mechanical engineering fun. They even offer a Fuel Cell car kit that actually runs on water!
Kits Prices start from $14.95 and up. Ages 5 and Up.



Erector Sets are kits that can inspire designs. With the use of plastic and metal parts, these kits can be used for building robotic forms. Erector offers an Interactive Robot set which can give a good start point into robotics. They are easily adaptable with other controllers and motors which makes them a good product to grown on.

Lego Mindstorm NXT is a kit that joins Lego Technic parts with a NXT Intelligent Brick with 32-bit microprocessor, 3 Interactive Servo motors, and a mixture of sensors to build an interactive robot. These kits are used in the First Lego Legue. A great place to start with computer controlled robotics.
Lego Technic kits are great fun by themselves and can be used to enhance the Mindstorm kit for more building parts.
PC and Mac compatible programming software. Ages 10 and up

We offer individual parts for the NXT by breaking up kits so that you can get that extra motor or sensor with out the need to by another kit.



Revell offers the VEXplorer kit. It is based on the VEX Design system. The kit builds a 6 wheeler with a camera and gripper. There is no programming needed. Ages 10 and up.
We also supply and support the VEX Design System and it's components which are used in local competitions. Ages 14 and Up.



iNex (Innovative Experiment) offers multiple low costs robot kits with many options. With different processors (Atmel, Microchip PIC, Parallax, Motorola) and languages (LOGO Blocks, C, PBasic, BasicPro(demo), Assembly), these are a great set of platforms for learning.
Ages: 14 and up.



fischertechnik® is the flexible construction system for young and older system designers alike. Produced in Germany to high standards, these robot kits allow a multitude of systems and 3D models to be created by slotting precision-engineered parts together.
